Location & Farm Type: A small, 20‑hectare goat farm near Playa Avellanas, owned and operated by Carlos and Hilda Carranza. They've been farming for 30+ years and making artisanal goat cheese and yogurt for 10+ years.

  1. Philosophy: The goats roam freely on pasture grown on-site. The farm runs on solar power and composts goat waste for fertilizer—no antibiotics or preservatives used. Rancho Avellanas

Our Services

  • Private Tour

    Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours Schedule: Starts at either 9 AM or 4 PM Price:$25 per person, with a minimum of 4 participants .

    Includes: A guided nature walk around the farm

    Interaction with a variety of farm animals: goats, chickens, pigs, and geese

    Hands-on goat milking, feeding baby goats

    Time to relax under the mango trees while enjoying a tasting table featuring many of their farm-made products

    A kids’ play area for younger visitors

  • Private Event Rentals

    Perfect for group celebrations, corporate retreats, birthdays, or private dinners. Booking is done via WhatsApp or email. Rancho Avellanas

    Package 1 – 3‑hour rental

    Guided farm walk to meet the animals like goats, pigs, geese, chickens

    Package 2 – 3‑hour rental with full tour experience

    Tasting session featuring their farm products

  • Sunset Experience

    Duration: About 2 hours

    Schedule: Begins at 4:30 PM

    Price: $30 per person, also with a 4-person minimum

    Includes: A leisurely nature walk and animal interaction (similar to the private tour)

    Goat milking and feeding baby goats

    A curated cheese tasting, featuring their most unique and special cheeses

    Relaxation around a fire pit, with the option to enjoy your own wine or arrange for wine pairing in advance (wine sold separately)

    Tasting and mingling under the shade of mango trees, with a cozy sunset vibe

    Access to the kids’ play area.

Products & Farm Philosophy

Rancho Avellanas produces a variety of artisanal goat‑milk items:

  • Chevre (creamy fresh goat cheese)

  • Aged cheeses like Gouda‑style and smoked varieties

  • Greek yogurt and yogurt-based dairy products

All made with locally sourced, natural ingredients and traditional methods. They also provide wholesale offerings to restaurants and businesses.

The farm focuses heavily on sustainable practices, caring for their animals with respect, and maintaining a self‑reliant, ecological system. Goats and cows are pasture‑fed, and they produce small batches of preservative‑free dairy. Location & Practical Information

  • Rancho Avellanas is 2 km past Hacienda Pinilla on the way to Playa Avellanas, in Guanacaste province of Costa Rica. Found via the first turn after Rio Pinilla Bridge.

  • Hours: Monday through Saturday, 8 am – 3 pm. Closed on Sundays for regular tours.
