Quinta do Gradil is a historic estate once owned by the family of the Marquises of Pombal, located in Cadaval, just 50 km from Lisbon. Nestled near the Montejunto Mountain, its picturesque vineyards offer a bucolic setting for creating unforgettable moments.

In September, the peaceful rhythm of the fields transforms into a vibrant celebration — the harvest. The air fills with the bustle and contagious energy of grape pickers, gathering the fruit that will soon become our wonderful wines.

Program:

10:00 – Arrival with wine tasting and regional products

11:00 – Grape harvesting (scissors in hand!)

11:45 – Guided tour of the estate

12:30 – Grape stomping

13:00 – Vineyard picnic with a prepared basket

Family Grape Harvest Experience
Quinta do Gradil is a historic estate once owned by the family of the Marquises of Pombal, located in Cadaval, just 50 km from Lisbon. Surrounded by vineyards and framed by the Montejunto Mountain, the property offers a bucolic setting for unforgettable moments. In September, the usual tranquility of the fields is replaced by the lively bustle and contagious energy of the grape harvest — a joyful tradition where grapes are gathered to create the wonderful wines of the future.

Program:

10:00 – Arrival with wine tasting and regional products

11:00 – Scissors in hand — time to harvest the grapes

11:45 – Guided tour of the estate

12:30 – Shoes off! Step into the lagar for grape stomping

13:00 – Picnic in the vineyards with a prepared basket

Included: Straw hat, t-shirt, and special harvest wine

Price: €185 (for 2 adults + 2 children up to 10 years old)

Our Wine Region
The Lisboa Geographical Indication (GI) is one of Portugal’s most important wine regions in terms of vineyard area and production.

Formed by gentle rolling hills, GI Lisboa stretches from Portugal’s capital northwards to Pombal, always along the coast in a strip no wider than 40 km. This heterogeneous region encompasses several Appellations of Controlled Origin, both ancient and modern, each with its own distinct character.

The climate is temperate with a strong Atlantic influence — milder and more humid near the coast, and warmer and drier in areas protected by the Montejunto Mountain.

Seven Centuries of Winemaking
The story of Quinta do Gradil dates back to 1492, when King John II of Portugal mentioned the estate in a royal document. Over the centuries, it has been a royal hunting lodge, a traditional farmhouse, and a thriving vineyard.

From the simple, natural wines of the 17th century to today’s refined blends, each era has left its mark. In the 20th century, it belonged to the Marquises of Pombal before being acquired in 1999 by Luís Vieira, whose family has been in the wine trade for generations.

Today, Quinta do Gradil blends heritage, nature, and innovation to create wines that honor its timeless legacy.
